Overview Of PositionThe Junior Accountant is responsible for the oversight and administration of accounting and payroll functions. The Junior Accountant will be responsible for full cycle AP/AR, journal entries, bank reconciliations, and payroll processing.
Responsibilities
Prepare invoices for review and submission weekly and/or monthly for contract invoicing
Responsible for the proper coding of cash receipts and timely recording/logging of revenue in the general ledger
Deposit checks on the same day of receipt if amount is $5,000 or more
Enter vendor invoices and staff reimbursem*nts into Quickbooks in a timely manner
Process AP checks weekly
Maintain and update MHASF's system of cost allocation
Prepare and enter monthly and adjusting journal entries
Verify billing and purchasing credit card charges and match with proper expense documentation
Record keeping and monthly bank reconciliation for all MHASF accounts
Review and process semi-monthly payroll in payroll system (Paycom); including, but not limited to terminations and final paychecks, reclassifications, promotions, manual payroll checks, payroll adjustments, voids and reissues, and other payroll related processes
Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local laws and industry regulations and requirements for compensation, related taxes and other payroll functions
Works with managers and employees to resolve timecard and payroll discrepancies
Handles employee inquiries related to payroll and compensation
Demonstrates understanding of relationship between payroll system and general ledger
Assists Finance team with year-end close, audit, and other requests

Required Qualifications
AA or Bachelor's degree in Accounting
At least a minimum of 1 year of accounting related experience
Strong communication skills and excellent attention to detail
Ability to prioritize competing demands and highly developed organizational and time management skills
Intermediate or higher skill in Microsoft Office, Quickbooks, and payroll systems (Paycom)
Ability to maintain high level of confidentiality and handling sensitive information
Willingness to learn from others and take direction
Commitment to upholding the mission, vision, and values of MHASF
Proficiency in web navigation and use of search engines for internet-based research and self-educate

WORK ENVIRONMENTWork will be performed primarily in a remote setting. Some occasional activities will require outdoor travel and/or stationary work outdoors in an urban setting, which may involve exposure to inclement weather, hot or cold temperatures, and loud street noise.
UPDATE: COVID-19MHASF is currently working under a remote-work flexible work environment. However, the needs of the position to support the staff fluctuate, and the employee should work with their manager, Department Director, and/or CEO to determine the need to be in the office.
PHYSICAL DEMANDSThe position requires long periods of work at a desk, which may involve sitting or standing and the use of a computer, keyboard, mouse, and desk phone. The ability to walk or travel within the office building and between floors of the building and to travel short distances (under 1 mile) by walking or other self-propulsion is required. Other physical tasks may involve reaching, pulling, pushing, bending, climbing a stepladder, use of a dolly to move items weighing up to 50 lbs., and lifting and carrying up to 20 lbs.
TRAVELLocal travel is required (via foot, car, or public transit as appropriate) for outreach activities, and occasional regional travel for large events and/or stakeholder meetings may be required.
