What Is Marry Me Chicken?

Marry Me Chicken (or Tuscan chicken) is a dish composed of sautéed chicken in a creamy white sauce mixed with sundried tomatoes. Garlic and Parmesan cheese add umami flavor, while the cherry and sundried tomatoes add a hint of sweetness.

The name of this dish originated in 2016, when a Delish video producer sampled the chicken on camera and exclaimed that it was so good that he would marry the cook. After a few years, the recipe circulated the internet again and went viral on TikTok. We can’t promise that “Marry Me Chicken” will result in a proposal, but it is guaranteed to impress any dinner date!

How To Make Marry Me Chicken

This Marry Me Chicken goes from stove to table in under 30 minutes. With these four simple steps, love will be in the air in no time!

  • Season the chicken: Season the chicken on both sides with garlic parsley salt and paprika.
  • Sauté the chicken: Set a skillet with avocado or olive oil on medium high heat. Cook the chicken on both sides until golden brown and cooked through, then remove and set aside.
  • Make the sauce: Add the butter, cherry tomatoes, and sundried tomatoes to the same pan. Sauté for a few minutes, then add the garlic. Mix in the heavy cream and spinach and bring the sauce to a simmer.
  • Mix everything together: Melt in the Parmesan cheese and add the chicken back into the sauce. Toss it all together and enjoy!

Hot tip: Deglaze the pan with a splash of chicken broth, vegetable stock, or dry white wine after sautéing the tomatoes and garlic. Scrape up those crispy chicken bits for an extra-flavorful sauce!

Tips for the Best Marry Me Chicken

Do you want to put your best foot forward and impress with your culinary skills? Follow these tips to make a Marry Me Chicken that wins over anyone’s heart!

  • Use your favorite cut of chicken. We use chicken breasts, but feel free to swap them for chicken cutlets or boneless skinless chicken thighs. Adjust the cook time according to the size of the chicken and always make sure it reaches 165°F by checking with a meat thermometer.
  • Change up the seasoning. Adjust this dish to your tastes with a pinch of dried oregano or thyme, red pepper flakes, or black pepper.
  • Dredge the chicken (optional). Coat each piece of seasoned chicken in flour before searing to produce a lovely golden brown crust. Make sure to shake off any excess!
  • Grate the cheese yourself. Pre-shredded Parmesan doesn’t compare to freshly grated Parm off-the-block. Not only does it taste better, but freshly grated cheese also melts more smoothly.
  • Add sundried tomato oil (optional). The oil in the jar of sundried tomatoes is incredibly flavorful — don’t let it go to waste! Add a tablespoon or so of the oil to the tomatoes when sautéing them.

Ways To Serve

Marry Me Chicken is a mouthwatering main dish. Serve it fresh off the skillet with a garnish of fresh basil and extra grated Parmesan cheese. Then, consider side options! Keep it simple with basmati rice or crispy smashed potatoes, or take it up a notch with homemade pasta (spaghetti and angel hair are our favorites). Because of the creamy sauce, this dish is also heavenly over velvety mashed potatoes. Are you looking for a few veggie sides? Enjoy grilled zucchini and squash, a broccoli cucumber and tomato salad, or steamed asparagus with your chicken.

Storage & Reheating

Every good love story ends with a “happily ever after,” and this chicken dish is no exception. You’ll be swooning over how tasty the leftovers are!

  • Storage: Store leftover Marry Me Chicken for up to three days in an airtight container in the fridge.
  • Reheating: Place the leftovers in a covered baking dish and reheat in the oven at 325°F for 20-25 minutes until warmed through. Or, reheat on the stove or in the microwave.

Hot tip: Although we wish Marry Me Chicken could last longer, we don’t recommend freezing the leftovers. The creamy sauce will separate and the texture of the chicken will change.
