update as of 4:00am (March 14): I-84 is now open fully between Ontario and Pendleton after being closed throughout the day yesterday. All associated closures have also been lifted.

Update from ODOT as of 7:40pm: I-84 eastbound remains closed to commercial vehicle traffic from Exit 216 (7 miles east of Pendelton) to Exit 304 (2 miles north of Baker City). I-84 eastbound from Exit 216 to Baker City is open to local traffic and deliveries only.
I-84 remains closed in both directions between Exit 304 (2 miles north of Baker City) and Exit 374 (3 miles west of Ontario). U.S. 30, U.S. 395, OR 204 and OR 245 are also closed to non-local traffic as they are not viable detour routes for commercial traffic on I-84. Crane is on scene to remove section of wind turbine tower. Closure is expected to continue into the evening.

Update as of 4:30pm:

I-84 is closed eastbound to commercial vehicles from Pendleton to Baker City. I-84 eastbound from Exit 216 (Wildhorse) to Baker City is open to local traffic and deliveries only.

I-84 is closed eastbound and westbound between Baker City and Ontario.

U.S. 30 is closed to non-local traffic.

OR 204 Tollgate is closed to non-local traffic

OR 245 , 1 mile North of Intersection with John Day Highway US-26, is closed to non-local traffic

US395 is closed between Pendleton and Long Creek, Local traffic only. No commercial motor vehicles,

Tows are on site and working to remove truck and trailer. Crews are waiting for crane to remove section of windmill tower. Expect an extended closure.

Update as of 3:15pm: I-84 eastbound is closed to commercial vehicle traffic from Exit 216 (7 miles east of Pendleton) to Exit 304 (2 miles north of Baker City). I-84 eastbound from Exit 216 to Baker City is open to local traffic and deliveries only.
I-84 remains closed in both directions between Exit 304 (2 miles north of Baker City) and Exit 374 (3 miles west of Ontario) due to an earlier crash at milepost 332. U.S. 30, OR 204 and OR 245 are also closed to non-local traffic as they are not viable detour routes for commercial traffic on I-84. Tows are on site and working to remove truck and trailer. Update as of 2:10pm: According to Tripcheck, I-84 eastbound is now closed Between Pendleton and Ontario. I-84 westbound remains closed between Ontario and Baker City. Expect at least a 6 hour closure as heavy equipment is moving in. As written by ODOT:

“Wreckers are on scene, waiting for a 200-ton crane that will need to be setup in the westbound lanes and requires a 28′ wide area to accommodate for outriggers. The crane will stabilize the tower section so the truck and trailers can be removed. There are concrete barriers that need to be removed from the inside of the tower that were scooped into the tower during the crash. The tower section will need to be re-attached to a new truck and trailer to be removed. The overall combination of the vehicle weight is 251,000 lbs and 170ft long. The crane operation is estimated to take at least 6 hours. EXPECT AN EXTENDED CLOSURE.”

OR-245 is closed at the OR-245/OR-7 JCt. Local traffic only on OR 245. OR 204 Tollgate is also being shown as closed Westbound to non-local traffic.

Update as of 12:25pm: According to TripCheck, I-84 eastbound is now closed between La Grande and Ontario. I-84 westbound remains closed between Ontario and Baker City. In addition, OR-245 is closed at the OR-245/OR-7 JCt. Local traffic only on OR 245.

Update from ODOT as of 11:55am: I-84 remains closed in both directions between Exit 304, north of Baker City, and Exit 374, 3 miles west of Ontario. Closure is due to a crash near milepost 332. U.S. 30 and OR 245 are also closed to non-local traffic as they are not viable detour routes for I-84. Recovery crew is in route. Length of closure is unknown at this time. Update from ODOT as of 9:35am: I-84 is closed in both directions between Exit 304, north of Baker City, and Exit 374, 3 miles west of Ontario, due to a crash involving a windmill tower near milepost 332. U.S. 30 is also closed to non-local traffic as it is not a viable detour route for I-84. Crews are onsite. Closure is expected to last several hours.

Update as of 9:30am: ODOT has confirmed both Eastbound and Westbound is closed between Baker City and Ontario due to a crash.

Previous: ODOT is reporting that I-84 is closed eastbound from Baker City to Ontario.
