Even those who’ve never seen the first will find glaring contradictions yet no one will be able to discount its searing impact. Kyle G Christian Bale's dedication to doing the right thing was inspiring. Seeing his unyielding example to his son was particularly moving. A little over the top with the good guy/bad guy finding a connection, but overall it was a good movie. Rated 4/5 Stars • Rated 4 out of 5 stars 09/26/24 Full Review Brian K An entertainingly great ride with a heartfelt story. Well acted and action-packed! Rated 4/5 Stars • Rated 4 out of 5 stars 09/12/24 Full Review Mario V A great western! As good as the old Clint Eastwood westerns. Is a joy to watch. Rated 5/5 Stars • Rated 5 out of 5 stars 09/07/24 Full Review Levi P Christian Bale and Russell crow are flawless together. Rated 5/5 Stars • Rated 5 out of 5 stars 09/03/24 Full Review D B While I haven't seen the original, this remake stands on its own, thanks in large part to the exceptional chemistry between Christian Bale and Russell Crowe. Their performances anchor the film, with Bale’s portrayal of Dan Evans as a man struggling to uphold his values in a lawless world adding a refreshing vulnerability to the story. The film could have easily followed the predictable hero's journey, ending with Evans triumphantly blasting away all opposition. Instead, it takes a more nuanced approach, keeping his character grounded and focused on his principles. What ultimately matters most to Evans isn’t glory or a hero’s triumph but his unwavering commitment to securing his family’s future, even at the cost of his life. This vulnerability even manages to elicit a forgotten spark in the hardened heart of Crowe’s character, Ben Wade, leading to an unexpected but deeply satisfying conclusion where Wade aids Evans in realizing his goal.
